Week One: Study of Color

Study of Red

These pictures were taken with a digital SLR with a 18-55mm and a 55-250mm lens. Using the zoom for macro, the long lens for shallow depth, and the short lens for deep focus. For the flower image the focus was a little off and there was a little movement from being hand held giving it a painting look.

  1. You offer a great variety with your images from soft texture with the flower to great contrast with the leaves and the ridges with the pole! I love texture, especially the natural texture you are able to capture. I am going to try to do what you did with your flower image, I like to try to take shots with out having to edit and doing a watercolor/movement look is awesome!

  2. Nice work! I especially love the last three, the texture in the 2nd one looks great, and I also love the shadows/lighting in that one. Your shallow depth of field in the 3rd one looks great and really makes the vibrant red of the leaves pop. I love the blur on your flower. Everyone always takes a close up of a flower in focus with a shallow depth of field but your shot has a refreshingly unique feel to it.

  3. I love the depth of field on the photo of the sandcherry leaves. The lighting on it is also phenomenal. The angles of the lines make it a great composition. The red and rusty pole is an interesting macro. It is a really good use of the rule of thirds. The lighting of first picture is the only thing that is really holding it back from being an interesting shot. The angle is great and so are the colors.

  4. I really liked the first two subjects - they invoked more emotion than the other two subjects did. The other two subjects seemed to lack something, perhaps depth or feeling. Although the angles and lighting were good and gave some pizazz to an otherwise boring shot. I really liked the shadow on the barrel because it gave it a very natural, earthy feel - not like it had been set up or staged. With the flower, is that how it would have looked if you'd been focusing on the background instead of the foreground?

  5. Great job with the leaves in front and and the blurred background. This really stood out to me and was very pretty. I am still trying to learn how to do a picture like this with my camera. I find the macro shots to be the most interesting and so do you seeing that you took several of them.
